Philip V. Petrocelli

Executive Advisor, Business Services Group and CEO, Shermco

Philip joined Gryphon in 2015 as an Operating Partner and currently serves as an Executive Advisor to Gryphon’s Business Services Group. He also serves as the CEO of Shermco, a Gryphon portfolio company. In his role, Phil works with the management teams of the Business Services Group portfolio companies to maximize short and long-term operating and financial performance. Current Gryphon portfolio company board appointments include Jensen Hughes, Shermco Industries, and Wind River Environmental. He formerly served as a director of 3Cloud, HEPACO, Orchid Underwriters, RegEd and Washing Systems.

Philip has over 35 years of experience driving commercial growth and optimizing value across a range of industrial, environmental, engineering and business services companies.

RELEVANT EXPERIENCE

  • HNTB Corporation, Senior Vice President/Division President/Chief Strategy Officer – Served in leading roles at this national leader in engineering, and designer of many of the nation’s highways, bridges and rail systems with approximately $1.5 billion in annual revenue.
  • AECOM, President, North America, Water Services and later Regional Chief Executive – Held senior positions at one of the world’s largest architect and engineering firms with revenues over $13 billion. As Regional Chief Executive, heed profit and loss responsibility for all nine business lines for the largest and most profitable region worldwide with revenues of approximately $1 billion.
  • Boyle Engineering, President/CEO/Chairman – Held top positions at this national leader in water resource planning, water and wastewater. In less than four years, achieved annual double digit organic growth, successfully completed multiple acquisitions and presided over the eventual sale of the company.  
  • NationsRent, President/COO/Executive Vice President – Steered the fourth largest construction and equipment rental company in the US. Restructured the company after the 9/11 attacks in New York, returning the company to profitability. Led the sale in 2003 to a Baupost Group portfolio company.
